We All Scream for Ice Cream 13

Mmmmm Ice Cream… Frozen Bliss

Summertime has arrived and what better way to beat the heat than to dive mouth first into a frosty, mouthwatering ice cream cone. For this reason, July has been dubbed National Ice Cream Month, and the third Sunday in July has been labeled National Ice Cream Day.

With so many varieties and ways to indulge, it’s no wonder ice cream is one of America’s preferred desserts and is enjoyed by over 90 percent of the population—individuals of all ages and walks of life. It is even respected by health-conscious people because of its high calcium content and nutritional value. Made from dairy products and an assortment of fruits, nuts and other ingredients, it has been popular since being introduced over 16 centuries ago.

The origins of ice cream are still a mystery. No one really knows much about its true introduction or who created the first frozen delight. Enjoyed by royalty as an after-dinner delicacy, it was not introduced to the public until 1660. Now more popular than ever and favored by millions, ice cream has topped the list as the most popular dessert around the world.

It wasn’t until an ice cream vendor ran out of serving dishes at the 1904 World’s Fair that the cone was created. The merchant was set up next to a waffle dealer who came up with the idea of a little crisp waffle cup to serve the delectable frozen delight. The concept became a sensation, and people were immediately hooked.

Ice cream’s reputation became so widespread that more and more companies started to manufacture the chilled marvel. It then became sold in more and more stores around the world and forced many parlors and soda shops to close their doors. Now specialty shops are opening and serving an expansive assortment of flavors, types and dishes for everyone to relish.
