Stomping Grapes at Morgan Creek Winery
On Saturday, September 16, Morgan Creek Winery held its annual Grape Stomping Event. The event features a Lucy look-alike contest. Contestants get to portray Lucile Ball in the famous “I Love Lucy” scene of Lucy stomping grapes from season 5. Along with this hilarious contest, guests also enjoyed wine tastings, live music, tours and some great food. Morgan Creek also introduced some of their newest additions to the already great lineup of wines that are available. Keep an eye out for next year’s event. It’s a guaranteed awesome time.
Happy Birthday, Montevallo
Montevallo celebrated 200 years with a Bicentennial Birthday Celebration on September 9. The weather and crowd turnout was amazing. Families poured in with plenty for the entire bunch to do—carnival rides, food, vendors, a rock climbing wall, live music, barbecue, car show, pirate ship and tons more to keep everyone happy and having fun. Happy Birthday, Montevallo. Here’s to many more years as an awesome community!
First Race for Hunger
Veteran’s Park in Alabaster hosted its first ever Race for Hunger 5K. The fundraising event was created to help fight hunger for students who are likely to not have food available to them after they leave school. Proceeds went to support the BackPack Buddies Program that feeds public school children ages 5-14. Crowds showed up to show their support by running or walking in the 5K, cheering on the racers and enjoying some fantastic food, door prizes and gifts.
Mayhem on the Mountain
Oak Mountain State Park was jampacked with fitness and bodybuilding enthusiasts the weekend of August 19-20 for the third Mayhem on the Mountain. Between 260 and 270 athletes participated in this extreme test of endurance and strength. Spectators cheered for friends and family while they were tested using a variety of techniques and challenges, including Olympic lifting, powerlifting, gymnastics, swimming and running challenges. So what are you waiting for? Start training and get prepared for next year’s Mayhem on the Mountain.
